Protection against the Sun

Even today UV rays can be damaging to our health. If the ozone layer thins even more in the future we will need to take added precautions to protect ourselves from the Sun.

  • Sunglasses that protect eyes from dangerous UV rays will help to reduce the risk of cataracts and other eye damage. Check the label when buying sunglasses.
  • Hats with wide brims will protect eyes and the skin on the head and neck from the Sun’s rays that can lead to skin cancers.
  • Clothes provide protection against the risk of skin cancers.
  • Sunscreen with a high Sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 blocks out most harmful rays.
  • Limit the time spent in the Sun and try to avoid it between 10am and 4pm when the rays are strongest.
